NewsBook is a regional newspaper discovery app: you pick a state and district, and read newspaper tiles curated for that area. This page explains, plainly, what the app does and doesn't collect, why, and what control you have over it.
01Overview
This policy covers the NewsBook Android/iOS app. Most people use NewsBook without ever creating an account — you choose a location and read. A smaller set of people are newspaper administrators who log in to publish posts and ads for their tile. Both use cases are described below.
02Information we collect
Location preference
The state and district you select on first launch, so we can show newspapers relevant to your area. This is a manual choice from a list — NewsBook does not request GPS or device location permissions. It's saved on your device and sent to our server with each request, only to filter content.
Login credentials
If you log in as a newspaper/tile administrator, your username and password are sent to our server over HTTPS to authenticate you. Your session is then cached on your device so you don't have to log in every time.
Posts, ads & photos you publish
If you compose a news post or ad, the text and any photo you choose from your library are uploaded to our server and published to your tile, where readers in that district can see them.
Basic server logs
Like almost any app that talks to a server, each request to our backend is logged with an IP address and timestamp for operating and securing the service — not for tracking you across sessions or apps.
03What we don't collect
NewsBook does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Specifically, we do not:
- Access your device's GPS or precise location
- Read your contacts, calendar, or call history
- Run background analytics or crash-tracking SDKs from third parties
- Show third-party ads or share data with ad networks
- Sell your data to anyone, for any reason
Ads that appear inside NewsBook are first-party content — written and published by tile administrators through the same posting tools used for news, on our own servers. They are not served by an ad network, and no ad-tech tracking is attached to them.
04How we use it
- Show newspaper tiles and posts relevant to your selected state and district.
- Authenticate administrator accounts and determine what they're allowed to manage.
- Store and display the posts, ads, and photos administrators publish.
- Keep the service running reliably and diagnose problems from server logs.
05Storage & transmission
Your location preference and, if applicable, your logged-in session are stored locally on your device. Account credentials, posts, ads, and photos are sent to our backend over HTTPS and stored on our servers so they can be served back to readers in your district.
06Sharing
We don't sell or rent your information. We share it only where necessary to run the app:

07Retention
Location preference and session data stay on your device until you clear them or uninstall the app. Account, post, and ad data on our servers is kept for as long as the account or tile is active, and deleted on request (see Contact below).
08Your choices
- Change your location anytime from within the app — nothing is permanent.
- Log out to clear your cached session from the device.
- Request account or content deletion by emailing us (below); we'll remove your admin account and associated posts/ads from our servers.
09Children's privacy
NewsBook is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
10Security
All traffic between the app and our server travels over HTTPS. Administrator passwords are only ever transmitted to authenticate a session; access to server infrastructure is restricted to those operating the service. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
11Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of NewsBook after a change means you accept the updated policy.
